Aggregates for Resin Bound Gravel
Our range of premium washed and kiln-dried resin bound aggregate are specifically produced for the purpose of use in resin bound gravel applications. By combining these highly attractive premium aggregates with a polyurethane resin binder, you can create a permeable and decorative gravel finish which is smooth and incredibly durable.
Appearance of Gravel, Better Performance than Block Paving
With so many people enjoying the appearance and aesthetics of loose gravel, but disliking the amount of regular maintenance required to keep the surface looking fresh and tidy, resin bound driveways are a fantastic way to get the look of gravel, however with all of the driveway gravels being bound in a high-tech resin, the risk of an untidy appearance through gravel migration is eliminated. As the whole surface is bound together and one single slab, this gives optimal performance and eliminates the risk of localised rocking and unevenness of the surface which can often occur after time with block paved driveways or paths.
Resin Bound Driveways: Low maintenance, high impact
Due in part to the introduction of the SUDS regulation, which covers the provision of measures to help combat surface water flooding and to reduce the strain on antiquated sewer networks, local authorities are very keen on homeowners and businesses switching from traditional methods of surfacing such as tarmac or concrete, to resin bound gravel surfacing due to the its permeable properties.
2-5mm Decorative Gravel
Probably the most commonly used of the resin bound gravel grades of aggregate, 2-5mm decorative gravel usually makes up around three-quarters of a complete mix, with the rest of the combination being made up of a smaller grade of aggregate (often 1-3mm). If you were to use only 2-5mm gravel, this would result in a higher rate of porosity (and lower run-off rate) due to there being slightly larger gaps than if it was mixed with two different sizes. The drawback of using a 2-5mm gravel only, is that with the increase in the size of the gaps between each individual piece of gravel, it is a minor compromise on strength as the surface is slightly less dense.
1-3mm Decorative Gravel
Usually used in conjunction with a 2-5mm gravel, 1-3mm is a very fine grade of decorative aggregate which helps to increase the strength of the finished surface by making the over mix a little more dense. It’s not generally recommended for 1-3mm gravel to be used alone in a resin bound gravel mix, as it will likely require much more material per square metre to cover at the required depth, along with a dramatic reduction in the run-off rate of rainfall and the overall decline on permeability of the surface. This is however, good for use in the filling of gaps between paving slabs or block paving bricks, due to its very fine, gritty nature.
